How Biodynamic Craniosacral sessions might benefit you, and what to expect.

Please read the following and then refer to our Practitioners page to find excellent practitioners near you, including Turtle Back owner Elsie White.

Craniosacral therapy is appropriate for almost anyone at any point in life. With virtually no side-effects, it can provide you a rare and beautiful opportunity for deep relaxation, self-reflection and self-healing. It can be life changing.

The experience of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy can be deeply profound. The nervous system slows gently, seeking balance, facilitating our innate capacity for health and self-regulation. Unlike most forms of bodywork, Biodynamic craniosacral therapy addresses what we call the "fluid body," the 75 to 95 percent of all our tissues that are fluid. We work with the breath, the heart, the nervous system and the body's natural rhythms and tempo.

What to expect from a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy session

Most people find Craniosacral therapy to be extraordinarily peaceful and subtle, yet it can be a fascinating adventure within. Every session is unique. Sometimes you feel quiet and reflective, other times energized.

This is bodywork, but it is nothing like massage. Wear comfortable clothing, because you'll stay dressed. You'll be invited to lay down (or even sit) on the treatment table in any position that's comfortable, and you're welcome to move or stretch whenever you like. Comfort is essential in this work.

The therapist connects with a respectful, light touch. Holds may be at the feet, your sides, along the spine, at the shoulders and/or at your head. Some people enjoy taking note of the sensations they experience, others drift off, often later describing themselves as having been somewhere between wake and sleep.

Clients are encouraged to take their time. Enjoy this opportunity to relax on the table for a while after your session and then move slowly back into your day.

Significantly, the Craniosacral session itself is only the beginning of a process that may continue for hours and even days following treatment. Each session sets into motion the organizing, self-healing and self-regulating capacities we all have at our core. You may notice obvious changes or subtle shifts on any level, physical, emotional or energetic.

Many report a decrease of symptoms. Some find their senses heightened, such as hearing or vision. Many say they sleep much better after Craniosacral therapy, and often their dreams are more memorable and significant. Virtually everyone comes away with a feeling of well-being, even those who find themselves connecting with challenging or difficult issues. Clients in counseling have reported that sessions with their psychotherapists are much more streamlined and productive following Craniosacral therapy.

Planning for Craniosacral Therapy sessions

Young people often experience tremendous results with just one or two Craniosacral sessions. Treatment times vary for children, ranging from 20 to 45 minutes, depending on age and temperament.

Treating a baby can be accomplished in minutes, though the ideal situation is to treat mom and baby together for a full session...a blissful experience that makes perfect sense. After all, their nervous systems are still so interconnected.

First-time clients may be asked to schedule a series of three sessions within a month. For some, this may be all they need. Others choose to continue Craniosacral "tune ups" on a regular basis, be it monthly or seasonally.

Although the treatment itself is usually about an hour, many practitioners encourage clients to put aside extra time for their sessions. Enjoy this opportunity to slow down....
